She was predeceased by: her parent Monroe Brinkley; her children, Kari Elizabeth Lahtela and Matthew James Lahtela; and her siblings, Dorothy Brinkley, George Brinkley and James Brinkley.
She is survived by: her parent Bess Patton Brinkley; her husband Albert E. Lahtela; her grandson John Buck Lahtela of Boone; her sisters, Mary Jo Southerland of Mount Airy and Ruth Ward of Pilot Mountain; her close friends, Lee Anne of Winston-Salem and Gary Stiffler of Winston-Salem; and her niece Gina Cupstid of Charlotte.
