He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Matthews and Minnie Pendry Matthews; his brothers, Larry Matthews and Arzie Matthews; and his sister-in-law Dorothy "Dot" Matthews.
He is survived by: his wife Willie Hunter Matthews; his children, Tim Matthews (Sandra) and Sheila M. Riggans (Curtis); his grandchildren, Jonathan Matthews (Srilekha), Elizabeth Matthews, Christopher Matthews and Stephanie White; his great grandchildren, Kaylee Mae McCann and Levi Thomas McCann; his brother Dean Matthews (Sue); and his sister-in-law Carolyn Matthews. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
