He was predeceased by: his parents, Willis Alexander Deaton and Avis Wilhelm Deaton; and his children-in-law, Patricia A. Deaton and Newton Alexander Smith III (Alex). He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Belk Deaton; his children, Dr. Lysa Deaton-Smith of Claremont, NC and Willis Robert Deaton, Jr. (Karen) of Liberty Hill, SC.; his stepgrandsons, William Pollard (Sarah) and Barnes Pollard (Amanda); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Evelyn, Wells and Lucy; and his siblings, Nancy Deaton Winfree of Little Mountain, SC, B. V. (Harriet Belk) and Gary (Diane Belk). He is also survived by 6 nephews and 6 nieces.
