He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Glenn Yates and Ruth Trotter Yates; his wife Betty Briles Yates; and his brother Paul Yates. He is survived by: his daughter Debbie Small (Tommy) of Asheboro; his grandchildren, Dana Varner and Trisha Small; his great grandchildren, Madison Varner and Cullen Small; and his siblings, Hazel Staley (Burnice) of Asheboro, Allen Yates of Lexington and Houston Yates (Janice) of Denton.
