He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Whitfield Wells and Ethel Smith Wells; and his siblings, Doug Wells and Shelia Wells. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ann Wells; his son John Whitfield Wells; his stepsons, Brian Fernandez and Albert Fernandez (Roni); his sisters, Barbara Morgan (Monty) of Anderson, SC and Loretta Cooke (Buddy) of Delco; his nephews, David Johnson, Adam Johnson and Billy Clark; and his niece Alyssa Johnson. He is also survived by three step grandchildren.
