He was predeceased by: his parents, James Richard Gunter and Lelia Collins Gunter; his sister Anna Nichols (Fred); his brother-in-law Frank Custer; and his brothers, Stafford Gunter, Gary Gunter and Winfred Gunter (Eleanor).
He is survived by: his wife Betty Bowman Gunter; his sons, Richard (Janet), Ricky (Robin) and Merle (Nissa); his granddaughter Rebecca Gunter; his sisters, Shirley Custer and Eloise Wade (Talmadge); and his sisters-in-law, Lucy Mabe, Doris Mabe, Emily Gunter, Thelma Gunter and Linda Smith (Randall). He is also survived by four stepgrandchildren, and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23rd 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel (1020 Hope Beasley Rd, Sandy Ridge, NC 27046). A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 23rd 2025 at 3:00 PM at the North View Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery (1224 Northview Church Rd, Danbury, NC 27016).
