It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Hilda Barksdale Martin in Dallas, North Carolina, who passed away on December 3, 2020, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Barksdale and Susie Barksdale; her sisters, Bertha Landrum, Elizabeth Martin and Virginia Clark; her husband Eugene Douglas Martin; and also Dudley Barksdale.
She is survived by: her sister-in-law Bea Mingo of San Marcos, California.; her child Vickey Martin Shelton (late Kenneth Shelton); her granddaughter Stephanie Brooks Elliott (Richard Abernethy); and her great grandchild Zachary Paul Park. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID, the family will hold a private graveside service only at Halifax Memorial Gardens in South Boston, Virginia.
To honor Hilda's giving spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Youth Ministry of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia, 190 E. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28052 or to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, Virginia, 24592.
