He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Garfield Phelps, Sr. and Nancy Hassell Phelps. He is survived by: his wife Shelia Spruill Phelps; his children, Jody Phelps Austin (Paul) of Columbus, OH, Craig A. Phelps (Charity) of Creedmoor and Mac Jones of Nashville; his siblings, Lucy Rae Johnson of Edenton, Milton Phelps of Creswell, Don Phelps of Williamsburg, VA and Hal Phelps of Roper; and his grandchildren, Veronica, Victoria Austin, Joshua, Shannen and Samuel Phelps.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Philippi Church of Christ, 73 Old Cherry Road, Creswell, NC 27928, to be used for expansion and improvements to the Family Life Center to better serve the congregation and community.
