He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde T. Tarkington and Narcissus Alice Phelps Tarkington; and his siblings, Alice E. Tarkington, Ruth T. Chesson, Rosalind T. Mitzke, Robert M. Tarkington, Samuel B. Tarkington, Roy E. Tarkington and Carl B. Tarkington.
He is survived by: his daughter April Tarkenton Smithwick of Colerain, NC; his close friend Marsha Williams; his grandchildren, Bobbi Smithwick, Mackenzie Cole and Ross Williams; his great grandchild Khristian Spencer; and also, Amanda Cole of Creswell, NC and Justin Williams of Creswell, NC.
