He was predeceased by: his parents, Van Dyke Freeman and Esther Mae Harris Freeman; and his wife Dora Ann Cobb Freeman. He is survived by: his children, Van M. Freeman, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, Dexter L. Freeman of Jacksonville, NC, Brandy Freeman of Baltimore, MD, Deshona Cox Ingram of LaGrange, NC and Natifah Freeman of El Paso, Texas.; and his siblings, Dennis O. Freeman of Cove City, NC, Linda McCarter of Kinston, NC, Dorothy Freeman of Brooklyn, NY and Sally Strayhorn of Cove City, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Bryant Chapel AME Zion Church (504 N Main St, Cove City, NC 28523). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Home Going Celebration (682 10 Mile Fork Rd, Trenton, NC 28585). A burial was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at the Bryant Chapel Church Cemetery (504 N Main St, Cove City, NC 28523).
