He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Lax and Gladys Lax (Ewing); and his brother Michael "Mickey" Lax. He is survived by: his wife Jude Starrett of Cornelius, NC; his daughters, Jordan Meyers Lax of Charlotte, NC and Austen Michelle Lax (Sam Issermoyer) of Denver, CO; and his sister Susan O'Brien of Roanoke, VA..
