It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Calvin Piland of Corapeake, North Carolina, born in Gates, North Carolina, who passed away on December 6, 2020, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Hollis Benjamin and Nellie Jones Piland; and his sisters, Christeen Peele and Betty Jordan. He is survived by: his wife Mary Harrell Piland; his children, Lisa Piland Matthews (Robert) of Elizabeth City and William Calvin "Billy" Piland (Dawn) of White Lake; his brother Mills Benjamin Piland of Mebane; his grandsons, Robert Wayne Matthews, Jr., Nolan Chase Matthews, William Jarad Piland and Ayden Michael Piland; his close friend Don Garrett (Kathy); and his children, David and Brenda. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
