He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Helfer Monroe; his sons, Stephen Michael Monroe (Markayla) and Thomas Andrew Monroe of Martinsburg, WV; his brother E. Thomas Monroe (Beverly) of Hickory; and his grandchildren, Piper Ann Monroe and Judah Stephen Monroe.
