It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Carl Matthews of Conover, North Carolina, born in Catawba, North Carolina, who passed away on January 14, 2023, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his father Robert Jones; his wife Revonda Lail Matthews; and his siblings, Kathleen Matthews Robinson (Solon), Jean Matthews, Martha Matthews Holtzlander (Eugene), Dorothy Matthews Laughlin (Harley), Mary Nell Matthews and Bobby Eugene Matthews.

He is survived by: his children, Robert Wayne Matthews, Richard Michael Matthews of Conover and Kimberly Matthews Harshaw of Hickory; his grandchildren, Brittany Pennell Ledford, Cody Pennell, Logan Pennell, Justice Harshaw, Jordan Harshaw, Laci Matthews and Haley Matthews; and his great grandchildren, Audrey Lee, Adylin Ledford, Claira Ledford, Mila Ledford and Cayson Ledford.
