She was predeceased by: her father Lee Smith; her daughter Jane Abernathy; and her siblings, Joyce Matthews (Ralph), Henrietta Carringer and Boyce Smith (Thelma).
She is survived by: her husband David W. Abernathy Sr.; her sons, David Abernathy Jr. (Nancy) of Hickory and Bradley Abernathy (Dawn) of Conover; and her grandchildren, Adam Abernathy (Shelby), Lucas Simmons, Tanner Abernathy and Holden Abernathy. She is also survived by niece, and several nephews.
