He was predeceased by: his parents, James Austin Whitfield and Edna Dixon Whitfield. He is survived by: his children, Michelle Whitfield, James Whitfield, Tonya Whitfield and Jason Whitfield; his grandchildren, Ashley Whitfield, Amber Harrison, Kory Parks, Alexandrea Lopez and Kiara Valsadua; and his great grandchildren, Imani Harrison, Jaxson Harrison and Rowan Parks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association in his name.
