He was predeceased by: his parents, Nancy Edwards Mitchum and Robert Parvin Mitchum; his wife Helen Thomas Mitchum; his son John "Johnny" Wesley Mitchum, Jr.; and his brother Robert "Bobby" Parvin Mitchum, Jr..
He is survived by: his son Robert Edwin "Eddie" Mitchum (Louise Bynum Mitchum) of Concord; his daughter-in-law Judy Mitchum of Sneads Ferry; his grandchildren, Kellie Mitchum Davis (Jeremy Davis) and William "Bill" (Leigh Long); his great grandchildren, Adelaide Mitchum Davis and Radford Thomas Davis; his siblings, Norene Mitchum Moore, Elizabeth Mitchum Poteat, Brenda Mitchum Smith and James "Jim" Paul (Sherry Mitchum); and his sister-in-law Marilyn Mitchum. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
