He was predeceased by : his parents, Ora Delle Rhodes Cooper and Raymond Haynie Cooper; his wife Jeanne Fields Cooper; and his sister Margaret Cooper Barbrey. He is survived by : his children, Laura C. Patterson (Lex) of Concord, NC, Amy M. Cooper of Concord, NC and Paul R. Cooper (Sonya) of Waxhaw, NC; his grandchildren, John A. Patterson of Concord, NC and Lydia M. Cooper of Waxhaw, NC; his niece Jill C. Dominick (Michael) of Boulder, CO; his great-niece Dayton C. Clark of London, UK; and his close friend Carolyn K. Timms.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 4th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (200 Branchview Dr SE, Concord, NC 28025). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4th 2024 at 1:45 PM at the same location.
