He was predeceased by: his mother Elizabeth Johns Sauvain Smart. He is survived by: his wife Pam Kee Smart; his children, Rocky James (Nicole), Laura Smart, Sandy Reynolds, Becky Eisbrenner (Chris) and Raeann West (Aaron); his siblings, Martha "Mimi" Barlow (John) and James "Jim" Smart (Celia); and his grandchildren, Carter Reynolds, Emma James, Levi James, Hudson West, Ziva Nobles and Boone West. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
