It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carolyn Avera Shinn of Concord, North Carolina, who passed away on December 23, 2023, at the age of 100, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Scarborough Scarborough and Lucy Garmon Scarborough; her husband Kenneth Shinn, Jr.; her brothers, Martin Jackson and Robert Edsall; and her son Martin Kenneth Shinn.
She is survived by: her daughters, Lucy Carolyn Shinn of Concord, NC and Amy Shinn McAvoy (Brian) of Lynchburg, VA; her grandchildren, Kate Luxton (Jason) of Richmond, VA and Kevin Reaves (Jessica) of Richmond, VA; her stepgranddaughter Laura McAvoy of Newport News, VA; and her great grandchildren, Emmeline Reaves, Harrison Reaves and Annie Luxton.
