He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Jo Jones Rathburn; his parents, Edgar Rathbone and Rosa Hawkins Rathburn; his brother Paul Rathburn; and his pets, Chi Chi, Buzz and Bonnie.
He is survived by: his son Michael (Cheryl); his grandsons, Bradley (Madison) and Doug (Andrea); his caregiver Brandy (James); his brother Jimmy (Kathy); his siblings-in-law, Martha (Haskell) and Sam (Bitsy); and also, Shawn, Jaqwon and Azalea.
