He was predeceased by: his parents, Clinton Askew and Reva Hoggard Askew. He is survived by: his wife Caroline Young Askew; his children, Melvin Askew, Jr. (Vanessa) of Charlotte, NC, Patrick Askew of Brooklyn, NY and Yolanda Askew of Queens, NY; his stepdaughters, Tina Wharton of Austell, GA and Rose Jones of Union, NJ; and his brothers, Gene Askew of Rocky Mount, NC, Shelton Askew of Powellsville, NC and Thomas Askew of Powellsville, NC. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
