He was predeceased by: his parents, William Millard Pope of Johnston County and Fannie Lenora Roberts of Johnston County; and his siblings, Willie Davis (Martin), Naomi Pope, Edward (Katie Lee Durham), Mildred Wheeler (Harry Melvin), Thurlene Rondini (Harry), Grace Stewart (Billy), Dorothy Ferrell (George), Tommy, Jean Lamm (Russell) and Rebecca Roberts.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret Weaver Pope; his children, Elizabeth Anne Gurkin (Sean), William Michael (Sheila Stafford), Jonathan Alan (Leslie Brown) of Coats and Robert Ian (Sarah Barbour) of Dunn; his grandchildren, Worth Cuyler Gurkin (Margaret Herring) of Dunn, Seth Wicker Gurkin of Coats, Megan Elise Pope of Coats, Sarah Ashlyn Pope of Coats, Emily Kathryn Pope of Coats, Adam Thomas Pope of Coats, Robert Ellis Pope of Dunn, Mary Charlotte Pope of Dunn and Sarah Frances Pope of Dunn; his great grandchildren, Townsend and Archie Gurkin of Dunn; and his caregivers, Marion Lilly, Brandy Gainey, Michelle Lamm, Tammy Byrd and Bridget Lawson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
