He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Grimes and Veda Mae Tart Grimes; his son Bennie Joe Grimes, Jr.; his brothers, Jerry Mac Grimes and Jackie Wayne Grimes; and his sister-in-law Judy Mae Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Johnson Grimes; his siblings, Kathy Gail Peede (Mike) of Coats, NC and Randy Michael Grimes (Tonya) of Fuquay Varina, NC; and his siblings-in-law, Judy B. Grimes of Goldsboro, NC and Jasper Johnson of Maryland. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
