He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Smith and Lily Mae Smith; and his sisters, Sylvia Lang and Agnes Ruggles. He is survived by: his wife Judy Messer Smith; his children, Jeff Smith (Connie) of Canton, Laura Smith Shipman and Kazandra Flesch (Brandon) of Clyde; his grandchildren, Abigail, Lleyton, Isaac Shipman and Casey Burris; his great grandchildren, Lane, Alice, Adam Flesch, Kimberly Shuler and Colby Jackson; and his siblings, Charles Smith (Nancy) of Raleigh, Linda McCaskill (Lynn) of Ellerbe, Melia Cox (Gerald) of Rocky Mount and Emma Delafield (Dave) of Greensboro.
