He is survived by: his wife Peggy Lee Johnson Merritt; his children, Carol Merritt Warren (Michael) of Clinton, Jane Merritt Dudley (Jason) of Dunn and Benjamin MacLee Merritt (April) of Dunn; his sister Melba Batts of Goldsboro; and his grandchildren, Anna Corbin Warren, Samuel Grey Dudley, Ella Rose Dudley, Mason Cole Merritt, Reagan Grace Merritt and Brooklyn Faith Merritt.
