He was predeceased by: his wife Brenda Routh Heilig; his parents, Leo Franklin and Sara Mae Foust Heilig; and his siblings, Martha Stout, Barbara Jean Hicks, Rebecca "Becky" Kidd, Brenda Smith, W. D. and Tommy Heilig.
He is survived by: his siblings, Betty Jo Frazier (David) of Ramseur and Billy Heilig (Patti) of Staley; and his siblings-in-law, Connie Heilig of Liberty and David Smith of Colfax. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
