He was predeceased by: his parents, Roby Thompson and Margie Watson Thompson; his wife Billyken Nell Chilton Thompson; his son John Thompson; and his brothers, Chester Thompson and Hiram "Tommy" Thompson.

He is survived by: his son Robert "Bob" Lee Thompson, Jr.; his daughters-in-law, Susan and Ann Thompson; his grandchildren, Robert "Robbie" Lee Thompson, III and Leigh Ann Thompson; his siblings, Ruth Haymore and Wade; and his sister-in-law Nancy Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's service.
