He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Edward Mathis and Julia Ackerman Mathis; his siblings, Eddie Mathis, Patty Ann Perryman and Teresa Mathis; his son-in-law Brent Legg; and his grandson Evan Miller.
He is survived by: his granddaughter Peyton; his wife Geneva Smith Mathis; his children, Jerry Mathis (Myra), Gina Miller (Mike), Dale Mathis (Wanda), Lisa Legg and Julie Heitman (John); his grandchildren, David Baxley, Erica McKnight (Mitch), Megan Shultz (Justin), Taylor Ann Mathis, Pressley Martin and Afton Legg; his great grandchildren, Miller McKnight, Kingstin McKnight, Elena Martin and Ryder Shultz; his brothers, Walter Mathis and Dickie Mathis (Barbara); and his sister-in-law Sylvia Mathis.
