He was predeceased by: his parents, Berlie Francis Swaim and Mary Jones Swaim; and his sister Molly Kiger. He is survived by: his wife Jean Hill Swaim; his children, Cindy Saunders (Hogie) of St. Augustine and Dan Carlin Swaim, Jr. (Michelle) of Winston Salem; his grandchildren, Hunter Swaim, Austin Swaim, Danielle Saunders and Carson Swaim; and his great grandchildren, Hudson Swaim and Caleb Schrantz.
