He was predeceased by: his brother Alvin Benson; his sister-in-law Gertrude Benson; his sister Leona Ellis; his brother-in-law Lexie Ellis; his brother Larry Benson; and his sisters-in-law, Jeannie Benson and Louise Benson.

He is survived by: his wife Janice Thrower Benson; his daughter DeeAnna Benson Kennedy (James); his granddaughters, Haley Gale Kennedy and Madeline Grace Kennedy; and his brother Edward Benson.
