He was loved and cherished by many people including: his children, Christine Barnes Merritt (Charles) and Roderick Barnes (Patricia); his siblings, Dalphine Barnes Flowers of Clayton, NC, Mattie Marie Barnes Clemmons of Clayton, NC, Lawnside, NJ, Pam Perry (Charles), Palm Bay and Reverend Gaddis Barnes of Clayton, NC; and his grandchildren, Antoine Merritt (Tricell), Terrence Merritt, Charles Merritt Jr., Jonella Barnes Brown (Brandon), Jay Brian Barnes, Joseph Benjamin Barnes, Jaysha Barnes, Jacob Brandon Barnes, Sarah Barnes Matthia and Abraham Uzziah Barnes. He was also cherished by 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be 12 noon December 30, 2020 at Johnston Piney Grove Cemetery, Barber Mill Road, Clayton, NC. (Face mask/covering required).
