He was predeceased by: his son Joel C. Matthews, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Linda A. Matthews; his children, Jerry Matthews (Sherri) of Four Oaks and Sherri Y. Matthews of Jacksonville, FL; his stepson Chad Creech (Karen) of Chattanooga, TN; his grandchildren, Cale Matthews, Samantha Matthews and Michael Locke; and his stepgrandson Max Barber.
