She was predeceased by: her parents, John Henry McCullen and Clider Thompson McCullen; her siblings, Shirley Wittig, Shelton McCullen and Elaine Allen; and her former husband Marvin Gainey.
She is survived by: her husband William Kelton Ray; her sister Faye Day; her children, Rhonda Houchens (Ronnie) and Kenneth Gainey (Charlene); her stepchildren, Preston Ray (Sue) and Valerie Blankenship (Blair); and her grandchildren, Daniel Houchens (Jennifer), Kevin Houchens (Meredith), Alec Gainey (Kenzie), Cole Gainey, Robbie Stephens, Heather Wilson (Jason), Brandy Dunlow (Tim), Indy Ray (Stephen) and Marissa Jessup (Jacob). She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hazel's memory may be made to Mount Moriah Baptist Church Building Fund, 3000 E Garner Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27601 US.
