David Allen Sommers Obituary
David Sommers passed into the arms of Jesus on June 19, 2023 at the age of 77. Dave was born November 27th 1945 in Meadville, PA. The 3rd of 8 kids, Dave grew up in the Mennonite community and attended Cochranton High School. He also attended First Mennonite Church where he met his wife Arlene (Kline). They married on August 8, 1964 and lived in Pennsylvania until moving to North Carolina in 1996. Dave was self-employed as a carpenter and general handyman, using his skills to bless those around him with Carpenters for Christ. Dave was also an elder and active member at Wellspring Community Church in Clayton, NC. He was known for his work ethic and his willingness to serve behind the scenes. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, fishing and golfing in his free time. Dave truly loved his Savior and His family, serving both well until his passing.
Dave is survived by his four children, Duane Sommers, Brian Sommers, Michelle Miller and Raquel “Roxie” Sommers and his six grandchildren, Nathan (Maddie) Groover, Derek, Alicia (Chad) Taylor, Kayla, Serena, and Matti (Bruno) Suppa, and seven great-grandchildren, Chloe, Delilah, Autumn, Coleson, Elijah, Willow, and Casey. He is also survived by four brothers and his sister, Leon (Norma) Sommers, Mervin (Lydia) Sommers, Clarence (Joan) Sommers, Paul (Marilyn) Sommers and Velma Taylor. He is preceeded in death by his parents Henry and Ada Sommers, and two brothers, Leroy Sommers and Gerald Sommers.
Visitation is scheduled at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, June 23rd. Services will be held at Koinonia Reformed Baptist Church on Saturday, June 24th at 11 am with further visitation beginning at 10 am.
