He was predeceased by: his mother Sara Diane Hughey; and his grandparents, Fred and Irene Hughey. He is survived by: his father James Earl Mitchell of Hickory; his wife Marilyn Delilah Mitchell; his daughter Caitlin Munn (Garyn) of Raeford; his sisters, Stephanie Holman (Ronnie) of Hickory, Angela Gantt (Michael) of Newton and Shannon Kiel (Matt) of Cary; and his granddaughters, Brystol Munn and Sydney Cate Munn. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a great-nephew.
