He is survived by: his former wife Maggie "Peggy" Collins Starnes; his children, Mike Starnes of Lenoir, Scott Denkins (Susan) of Sanford, Lori Ward (Dale) of Claremont, Kelly Denkins of Sanford and Linda Starnes Gatwood (Rob) of Claremont; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Thompson of Hickory, Ann Shook of Hildebran and Laura Hall (Nelson) of Sanford; his grandchildren, Austin Starnes (Melissa) of Catawba, Drew Starnes (Kourtney) of Madisonville, TN, Kevin Starnes (Ally) of Conover, Megan Johnson (Brian) of Lincolnton, Lauren Roser LeFevers (Christine) of DeBary, FL, Heather Carr (Dwayne) of Laurinburg, Nicole McCauley (Jay) of Denver, CO, Christi Weeks of Sanford and Allen Ward of Hickory; and his great grandchildren, Ella Rose Starnes, Aiden Starnes, Paisley Zine, Harper Starnes, Jake Clemmons, Eli Starnes, Nate Johnson, Rylan Johnson, Madalyn Johnson, Amiaya Carr, Callie Weeks, Macey Smith, Payton Smith and Asher Ward.
