It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maxine Mahaffey Shoemaker (China Grove, North Carolina), who passed away on February 3, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, John Virgil Mahaffey and Stella Mae Ladd Mahaffey; and her siblings, Ruby Cates, Noel Johnston, Ruth Mason, Curtis Mahaffey, Billy Mahaffey and Arzy Mahaffey.

She is survived by: her granddaughter Crystal Rose James Lorenson (Brian); her great grandchild Kairi; her adoptive son John Carpenter; and her siblings, Arlene Johnson, Louise Parks (Gary), Evelyn Edwards (Dwight) and Larry Mahaffey. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and more friends.
