He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Arnold McGee Jr. and Lois Johnson McGee; and his brother-in-law Rick Ramsey. He is survived by: his wife Sheryle Ammons McGee; his children, Joseph Arnold McGee IV (Jana) and Sarah Reece (Ian); his siblings, Timothy McGee (Susan), Steve McGee (Laura), Susan Norris (Rex) and Jeannine Ramsey; and his grandchildren, Joseph Arnold McGee V and Callum Reece.

Memorials may be made to the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard, P.O. Box 923 Salisbury, NC 28145 as well as St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
