He was predeceased by: his parents, Page Woodrow Higgins and Margaret Hodnett Higgins; and his brother William "Bill" Higgins. He is survived by: his wife Sarah Overcash Higgins; his daughter Jennifer Lentz (Greg) of China Grove; his granddaughters, Marisa Lentz (Jeffrey) and Sara Lentz; and his nephews, David and Jeff Higgins.
