He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Taylor Popwell and Helen Woods Popwell; his wife Kathy Marie Query Popwell; and his siblings, Patricia Caudle, Glenn Popwell and Raymond Popwell.
He is survived by: his children, James L. Popwell, Jr. (Heather) of Mooresville and Heather Bost (David) of Kannapolis; and his granddaughter Katie Bost.
