He was predeceased by: his parents, Hillard Brittain and Marine Wehunt Brittain; and his brother Buck Brittain. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Hoyle Brittain; his daughters, Teresa Jackson (Nick) of Vale and Lisa Hansen (Allen) of Shelby; his grandchildren, Matthew Hansen and Abby Hansen-Barteck; his sisters, Nancy Sain of Cherryville, Linda Sellers of Cherryville, Ruth Sain of Vale, Mary Cook of Vale, Pat Tipton of Vale, Cathy Correll of Vale, Faye Corbett of Vale and Scarlett Beam of Vale; and his pet Little Bit.
