He was predeceased by: his father Charles Gordon Schmidt; and his brother Steven Schmidt. He is survived by: his wife Toni Schmidt; his children, Jennifer Heitert (Gregory), Chaela Avramovich (Steven), Jacob Schmidt (Krystal Brown) and Jordan Schmidt (Carianne); and his grandchildren, Samantha Heitert, Joshua Heitert, Lillian Avramovich, Parker Schmidt, Jonah Schmidt, Owen Schmidt, Charlie Schmidt and Marceline Schmidt.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to either the National Kidney Foundation or to Carolina Caring Hospice & Palliative.
