He was predeceased by: his parents, Yates Sustar and Beula Sustar; his brothers, Larry Sustar and Douglas Sustar; his children, Beverly Edwards and Van Sustar Jr.; and his grandson Jeffrey Cooper.

He is survived by: his wife Sara "Nell" Sustar; his children, Sue Cooper (Jimmy), Patricia Dorton and Randy Smith (Jeannie); and his brother Ronnie Sustar (Linda). He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, his 22 great-grandchildren; his 5 great-great Grandchildren.
