He was predeceased by: his father Richard V. Fanning. He is survived by: his wife Anne Blevins Fanning; his mother Ruth Henson Fanning; his brother Ric Fanning; his siblings-in-law, Susan Fanning, Mark Blevins and Janet Blevins; his nephews, Will Fanning and Troy Blevins; and his niece Katy Fanning.

Memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Charlotte Humane Society.
