He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcus Lawton and Alice Evelyn Beckstead Lawton; his sons, David Lawton and Peter Lawton; and his sisters, Ione Cheney and Ginny Eckert.

He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Klein Lawton; his daughters, Linda Gilbert (Bruce) of Pulaski and LoriAnn Lawton of Lacona; and his siblings, Richard Lawton of Palermo and Dorothy Brown of Watertown. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
