He was predeceased by: his parents, John K. Gilbert and Jeanette Brigstock; his wife Jean Fant Gilbert; and his siblings, Roger Kendall Gilbert and Janet Gilbert Bassett.
He is survived by: his brother Wholesale; his sons, Gary (Beth Gilbert), David (Jean Gilbert) and Tim (Janet Gilbert); his grandchildren, Kendall Gilbert-Cox (Michael Cox), Geoffrey Gilbert, Chelsea, Benjamin Gilbert, Michael, Brian and Stephen Gilbert; his sister Betty Gilbert Kirby; and his sister-in-law Norma Lynn Fant Higgins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church Child Development Center, 501 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
