He was predeceased by: his father John Thomas Smith; his son James Wiley Smith, Jr.; and his siblings, Roosevelt McClure, Jr., Charles Smith, Sr., Wendy McClure and Babbie McClure.
He is survived by: his mother Lizzie Sanders Smith; his wife Martha Simmons Smith; his children, Tamisha Ajose (Jonathan) of Statesville, NC, Chambrelle Caldwell (Brandon) and Joshua Smith of Austin Texas; his grandchildren, Brooklyn Ajose, London Ajose and Kameron Johnson; his siblings, Johnnie Mae Smith of Hampton, VA, Asia Watts of Charlotte, NC, Danny Sanders of Charlotte, NC and Robert McClure of Chester, SC; and his siblings-in-law, Roxie Bradshaw (Fred), Peggy Samuels (David), Brenda Simmons, Wendy Simmons (Ron), Paulette Simmons and Bruce Simmons. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the O'Zion AME Zion Church (13921 Hamilton Rd, Charlotte, NC 28278). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 14th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
