He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Sarah Gertrude Page East; his children, James, Page (Tom Holsteen), Maren, Paul (Meredith), Jay (Emelie) and Robert; his grandchildren, Maria, Anna and John; his brother Charles (Betty); his great grandchildren, Eliya, Graham and David; and his brother John (Marietta).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Charlotte, or the Samaritan Fund at Plantation Estates, Matthews, NC.
