He was predeceased by: his father Winfield Mills; his wife Carol Mills; his mother Iva Hughes; his stepfather Floyd Hughes; and his brother Winfield "Sonny" Mills.

He is survived by: his daughter Jessica (Michael Skeean, Jr.); his granddaughter Madeline of Charlotte, NC; and his sister Lynne Ridgel.
